I read an article in Frankie about people perpetuating their own stereotypes. It got me to thinking: what is my stereotype? I am a Canadian, and contrary to popular belief, I do not live in an igloo and have moose and beavers as pets. Occasionally I do catch myself ending my quizzical sentences with "eh?". I have been known to pour a little too much maple syrup on my pancakes, just for good measure, but I don't harvest it fresh from the red maple in my front yard. I don't say "aboot" and I don't have snowshoes. I love Tim Hortons and I hate hockey. Lacrosse is our national sport, but I know nothing about that either. I'm pale and I do tend to shy away from the sun. Overall, I like being a Canadian, whatever that means.

i love the scarf as belt thing you have going on here. very cute and unique.
Hi There,
My name is Kim Montgomery. I recently came across your blog and I love how witty and intelligent your entries are! Your blog totally targets the lifestyles of young Torontonian women... great research and authorship!
The reason I'm writing is, I work for Matchstick Marketing, a hip market-research/ promotions company that spreads "word-of-mouth" marketing for our various clients. The campaign I'm currently working on is looking for young, chic, fashionistas like yourself! Most importantly, I'm on the hunt for women who write popular blogs that discuss topics like lifestyle, fashion, health & beauty and savvy current events, with the hopes that they'd be willing to participate in a short study about feminine beauty & hygiene products.
The survey wouldn't take too much of your time. I'd love to get the chance to connect with you and get your valuable feedback!
Please feel free to email me at kim@matchstick.ca and you can let me know if you're interested in participating in the study and how best to get in contact with you!
Thanks in advance,
Kim
that's a pretty unique way to use the scarf I love it
hahahaha awesome post! Some of the stereotypes are pretty funny eh? Thanks for your comments :) Love the scarf and outfit very cute!
i LOVE that nail colour!! and am kinda dissappointed that you don't say aboot...haha
thanks for the comment :) great idea with the scarf! ♥
I love maple cyrup and wear snow jogs. Does that make me Canadian stereotype?
Love the scarf by the way.
whyy yess of course!! Go to Le Marais! I went to 2 vintage stores there, but im not sure what they were called. But im sure you will find them by just walking around. Also there is a store called Noir Kennedy but i think its rather expensive but check it out anyways! When are you going to be in Paris?
Ohhh the grand affair of Red & Pink...I love those colors together!
xCC
talking about stereotype, Im mexican and Im not singing all the time with mariachi and we are not riding horses or living in a small town like a desert. MOVIES changed my country image dont believe on them!!!!!
I like the scarf as a belt. And I always wonder about stereotypes..
Canadians who hate Hockey unite. Now.
you do't have a moose and beaver you are kinding!!! LOL
I've heard people say that Candian are suppose to wear lots of plaid too, which is very odd!
and digging the outfit as usual, I love the scarf skirt ;)
Nice look !
Love the scarf as a belt, looks so cute.
thats a very cute look, i like the way you used the scarf!
I like the scarf. Stereotypes, eh? We are what we are. Am I a typical American, I doubt it, but when you move every three years and was raised partially overseas, are you really a typical anything--other than a military brat?
LOVE the scarf and the nails look fab! Ooo and I loved Tim Hortons when I was in Toronto, the donuts were super!!
I feel we have a stronger Brittish influence as Canadians, so really, we're a more multicultural UK. And I love that!
I'm from Nova Scotiiiia. YEUP. That coast.
i'm not sure if i LOVE the scarf that way, but whatever, you're gorgeous and you pull it off!
I'm Canadian :D
I've only recently starting using eh at the ends of sentences, for some unknown reason!
I love that scarf!
Yeah, I found that Frankie article interesting too. My particular stereotype wasn't covered, but I know New Zealanders have a lot of preconceived ideas of what a 'white Zimbabwean' is, and they're not usually very flattering! I remember telling someone where I was from once, and they said "Oh, so you're a racist?"
Yes, Random-Person-I-Met-At-A-Party - things really are that simple. Thanks for your valuable insight.
Great post! :)
The pink scarf looks awesome against the skirt. Great colours.
As for stereotypes, I'm Australian and I don't say 'G'day, mate', wrestle crocodiles or ride kangaroos. Often :)
hahah yes, I think stereotypes are the funniest thing, but I am guilty of applying them.
the outfit is great, I love what you did with the scarf/hankerchief
Love the scarf! Cute outfit :)
Lol I love that scarf thing around your neck. Personally, I'm disappointed you don't say aboot or harvest fresh maple syrup. What kind of Canadian are you?! Lol j/k VV, much love.
I like how you wrapped the scarf on the skirt! Very well put together outfit!
I think you aren't a stereotype, i think you're very original. The dress is great and very cute with the scarf.
What a lovely scarf!! I adore vintage goodies! They have so much character! I definitely love the way you are wearing it! :) The dress is just lovely!
love the scarf as a belt!
and as always i want to steal your beautiful red hair ;-)
but i must say girly. i am so disappointed to hear that you don't say aboot!!!
Hahaha... this made me laugh. My best friend is Canadian, and my accent is non-Australian as a result of that. I catch myself saying 'eh?' at the end of things. Happened the other night.
I have been known to splurt out 'aboot' too. What is with that?
Anyhoo, I tagged your blog in brilliant blogs. Check out my blog for more details. See ya.
thanks for the comment. i did the illustrations. i will definately swap links. i'll add yours today.
Cutie! :P Stereotypes are for people who thrive on labeling others in their desperate attempt to explain this crazy thing we call life. I don't really care for stereotypes, life is too unique and too spontaneous to strap down with ONE description.
haha, didnt know the 'EH?' was a common thing amongst canadians...
great use of the scarf by the way
i love your glasses.special and cool.
I really like the scarf over the skirt as a belt. It adds a really nice visual interest.
i gave your comment thought and i came up with nothing. so maybe i should pose the question to you. what is flawless? it really is hard to answer, isn't it? it really made me think. thank you for asking that. =)
That "Eh?" thing! I first heard about it from Mary, and I am so curious as to how exactly you use and pronounce it. No, I don't know too many Canadians. A video post would be nice! (hint)
That scarf touch is genius. You always have the best ideas when it comes to clothing.
ummm if its consolation, as an American most of the sterotypes are very negative.
We want to bomb everything, we're uber violent and rednecks, etc.
oh and we love McDonald's more then anything else. lol.
i adore that scarf. looks great over that skirt!
Very cool blog. Lost of great pics and fashions as well as entertaining musings.
Cool color combo. here!
And yes, people do have misconceptions about Canadians . . . and it's totally lame! Some of my most fabulous fellow fashionistas (VV inlcuded, natch!) live in Canada. My family used to vacation in Nova Scotia so that's the only part of the country I really know - and it's quite beautiful!
that's really cool how you did that with the scarf, it looks great!
dude, I'mull-on American and I still say "eh?"
hahaha.
i've always wanted to travel around Canada, though.
I love the scarf, and your skirt is so bright its great
The scarf is amazing! I loved the way you put it together! Adorable!!!
again, you´re a heroine of uniqueness, lovely!
