I read an article in Frankie about people perpetuating their own stereotypes. It got me to thinking: what is my stereotype? I am a Canadian, and contrary to popular belief, I do not live in an igloo and have moose and beavers as pets. Occasionally I do catch myself ending my quizzical sentences with "eh?". I have been known to pour a little too much maple syrup on my pancakes, just for good measure, but I don't harvest it fresh from the red maple in my front yard. I don't say "aboot" and I don't have snowshoes. I love Tim Hortons and I hate hockey. Lacrosse is our national sport, but I know nothing about that either. I'm pale and I do tend to shy away from the sun. Overall, I like being a Canadian, whatever that means.

whyy yess of course!! Go to Le Marais! I went to 2 vintage stores there, but im not sure what they were called. But im sure you will find them by just walking around. Also there is a store called Noir Kennedy but i think its rather expensive but check it out anyways! When are you going to be in Paris?

I like the scarf. Stereotypes, eh? We are what we are. Am I a typical American, I doubt it, but when you move every three years and was raised partially overseas, are you really a typical anything--other than a military brat?

I feel we have a stronger Brittish influence as Canadians, so really, we're a more multicultural UK. And I love that!

Yeah, I found that Frankie article interesting too. My particular stereotype wasn't covered, but I know New Zealanders have a lot of preconceived ideas of what a 'white Zimbabwean' is, and they're not usually very flattering! I remember telling someone where I was from once, and they said "Oh, so you're a racist?"

Hahaha... this made me laugh. My best friend is Canadian, and my accent is non-Australian as a result of that. I catch myself saying 'eh?' at the end of things. Happened the other night.

Cutie! :P Stereotypes are for people who thrive on labeling others in their desperate attempt to explain this crazy thing we call life. I don't really care for stereotypes, life is too unique and too spontaneous to strap down with ONE description.

That "Eh?" thing! I first heard about it from Mary, and I am so curious as to how exactly you use and pronounce it. No, I don't know too many Canadians. A video post would be nice! (hint)

ummm if its consolation, as an American most of the sterotypes are very negative.

And yes, people do have misconceptions about Canadians . . . and it's totally lame! Some of my most fabulous fellow fashionistas (VV inlcuded, natch!) live in Canada. My family used to vacation in Nova Scotia so that's the only part of the country I really know - and it's quite beautiful!
